We want to extend a HUGE THANK YOU to Mark Gutteridge and his donors who raised an incredible $6,126 AUD for Shine. Mark did this by completing one of the most difficult cycling challenges in the world; The Everest Challenge.
The concept of “Everesting” is to pick any hill, anywhere in the world and complete repeats of it in a single activity until you climb 8,848m – the equivalent height of Mount Everest.
Mark, who has been cycling for more than 20 years completed the challenge in Hong Kong. Which given the heat and humidity of Hong Kong in May must have been an additional challenge in itself.
“I chose to ride throughout the night to avoid the heat of the day, so I started the challenge at 1600 and completed it in 15 hours 35 minutes at 730am”.
Mark had fantastic support during the event from 15 other cyclists, photographers, people assisting with food, hydration as well as many others with enthusiastic support.
“It was a fantastic experience that exceeded all my expectations, as well as raising money for Shine, which is such a great cause. I hope to visit the school some day and meet some of the kids.”
Shine would like to thank Mark from the bottom of our hearts and look forward to welcoming him one day at Shine!
